Brewers even series with commanding win
The Northside Brewers scored early and often as they swamped the Peakes Bombers 12-2 in Kings County Baseball League finals on Sunday. The game was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.
It was a boisterous crowd at the Peakes diamond on Sunday hoping for a two game series lead. It didn’t take too long for the Brewers to silence the fans and dimm any hopes of a Bomber victory. Northside scored three in the first and second innings and five in the fourth to lead 11-0 before Bomber Josh Coffin homered in the bottom of the fourth. Northside scored one more in the fifth to regain their 10 run lead and winning pitcher Jason MacLean shut down the Bombers in the bottom of the fifth to seal the deal. Jamie Arsenault and Taylor Larkin were both 3/4 in the game. Arsenault also homered and had three RBIs.
Last Wednesday Peakes took the opener of the series with an 11-7 victory. Stephen Birt held the Brewers in check while Peakes jumped out to an 8-2 lead. In the bottom of the sixth Garret VanDiepen hit a three run blast and the Brewers scored one more to get within two of the Bombers. Peakes rallied to score three more in the seventh to lead 11-6. Northside got one back and with the bases loaded Dustin Larkin flied out to Josh Coffin back to the right field fence to end the game.
This has turned into a pretty good series as most predicted. The fan support is huge on both sides and the all important bragging rights for this years winner has just got started.
Game three shifts back to Morell this Wednesday evening beginning at 7:30. The Brewers will try to be the first team to win in their own ball park. Game four will be back in Peakes this Sunday. First pitch will be 2pm.
