2010 Taste Our Island Award

2010 Taste Our Island Award

Chef Stephen Hunter
Thu, 08/12/2010 - 11:52

I received this note yesterday and ask that if you are a foodie, as I am, then consider nominating your favorite PEI chef who you feel has been promoting local growers and producers.  I nominated my client and friend, Chef Stephen Hunter of the Victoria Village Inn, and he won first place last year!!  He is an amazing chef and takes great care and pride in buying the majority of his ingredients for his 2 diamond restaurant from local farmers and fishermen.

Partly as  a result from winning the Taste the Island award last year and the subsequent full page ad in the Visitors' Guide, and partly from years of word-of-mouth and recommendations of how great his restaurant is, Chef Steve is run off his feet this summer but will no doubt take the time to come out from the kitchen and ask how you enjoyed your meal... especially if you pass on your enthusiasm, if deserved, to your server ;-)!!

"Taste our Island - an award to honor chefs and restaurants who purchase and promote PEI agriculture"

 Hi All,

Now is the time to get those last minute nominations in for the 2010 Taste Our Island Award.  It is quick and easy to nominate someone online at www.peiadapt.com, or send us a nomination by mail to the address in my signature.  More information about the award and criteria are on the website.

All you need to do is fill out the name of the chef or establishment that you feel is contributing to the innovative development of our local food system.  If you can include a menu and/or a paragraph about what the person or restaurant is doing to promote local food, that would be really helpful.

The winner receives a full page ad in the 2011 PEI Tourism Guidebook, as well as an engraved plate from Victoria's Glass Studio!

Also, I'd like to make it clear that it is perfectly fine for a restaurant to nominate themselves!

Nomination deadline is August 28th.

Thanks for supporting this local food initiative!
