The Color Red
The Color Red
RED is associated with bravery, purity, happiness, good luck, heat, energy, blood, and emotions that "stir the blood", including anger, passion, love, pain, and sacrifice.
A lot of people shy away from wearing the color red, due to the fact that it is a strong, intense, and stimulating color.
Whether it’s a shiny red sports car, or a Sexy red dress, let’s face it Red attracts attention!
We don’t have to wear RED from head to toe, for Valentine’s Day in order to get noticed.
As a matter of fact RED works best in small tasteful doses.
RED makes a great accent color, or accessory!
Valentine’s Day is the prefect day to try on the color Red.
Go ahead and add some RED to your ensemble!
Ladies first:
Simple Ways to incorporate the color RED
AKA some Spice into your Wardrobe
Red Lips and Nails
Red lips are very noticeable, stylish, and sexy! Wearing red lipstick is a really simple way to spice up your everyday look.
Keep in mind there are many shades of Red: orange Red, pink Red, Blood Red, make sure you pick the one that suits your skin tone best!
Red Fingernails
I know Red nail polish can have the potential to look very white trash; if worn in the wrong context.
However- when a proper red manicure is done, and worn with the right outfit- Look out!
Red nails can look classic, tastefully feminine, and down right sexy!
Tip:
Pick polishes that are age appropriate. Leave the glittery red nail polish for the younger generation.
Red Pedicure
If having bright red or dark red fingernails is too hard for you to pull off… then try it on your toes, a Red pedicure is a more private way to flash some Red - it can be your own little secret!
Red Shoes
Because red leather was initially very expensive to buy in the past, red shoes were a symbol of status for both men and women
I’m sure we all remember the famous Rubie Red shoes in the movie, “The Wizard of Oz”, worn by Dorothy that brought her back home.
Today Red shoes can really add some attitude to an outfit! They are strong, passionate, bold and sexy!
A black dress for instance, a black pantsuit, or even a pair of dark denim jeans, can all be jazzed up by wearing a pair of red shoes.
Not only on Valentine’s Day should they make their debut; a red wedge or heel is a great shoe for this Spring / Summer 2010.
Red Handbag
A red purse is a very classic confident feminine accessory!
Of course it’s the perfect accessory for Valentine’s Day;
But adding a splash of red in a handbag is in style for Spring Summer 2010!
Whether it’s a Bright Red beach bag, a practical everyday Red leather bag to wear to work, a fun shiny out on the town red purse, or a vintage red clutch- they will all demonstrate some personal style!
Tip: Always keep in mind: the scale of your handbag should coincide with your body scale- keep things in proportion Ladies! If your purse is too small it will only make you look bigger than you actually are, and vice versa.
Luckily our shoes shouldn’t match our purses these days so it’s completely acceptable to grab your red clutch, on your way out the door with your black heels. Its encouraged!
Red Scarf
A red Scarf is a nice way to bring some color up around your face, while adding some instant Valentine’s Day style to your look; you could even match it with your red lipstick!
Scarves are always in: They are a finishing touch to most outfits, and are always a stylish accent piece.
Whether it’s a cotton scarf or a nice silk patterned one, wear it confidently!
Don’t just let it hang there, try and tie it in an interesting way, or wrap it around with some flare, if the Girl Guide knot is all you know then I suggest wrapping it around loosely, so it looks feminine, and no fuss!
Red Unmentionables
Of course if you are feeling on the sassy side, Red is the perfect color for sexy undergarments, any time of year, especially on Valentine’s Day, of course! You can never go wrong with red lingerie.
Tip:
Try to pick bra and panty sets that are flattering to your body shape.
We don’t all look good in a red g-string, now do we?
For some, a more vintage cut is most flattering; there are many styles to choose from - ranging from a full panty, to a bikini, so choose wisely!
If you are less daring a sexy red slip is always a good option.
Now for the Gents:
Red Tie
A red tie is a very stylish confident fashion statement;
try it with a black striped shirt, or patterned shirt, and or a navy shirt, with a pair of great dark denim jeans. Look out!
Just because you are sporting a splash of Red with an outfit doesn’t mean it has to be straight red, it could be a red plaid tie or Red striped tie, you get the picture.
For the more daring – try a red tie with a pink shirt… I did say for the more daring!
Whether it’s a regular tie or a cool vintage bowtie (which are back in style by the way), you will definitely look fashionable, for not only Valentine’s Day but for Spring Summer 2010.
If you are tie challenged:
A clip on tie is an option, although every man should know how to tie a tie, Come on!
Warning: Please steer clear of tacky red ties such as ties with ridiculous things on them that shouldn’t be worn in public. i.e. a red tie with a golfing Santa on it.
Red plaid scarf
The color red doesn’t have to be red alone: mix it in with some other color; just make red the predominant one.
A good quality red based scarf can really finish an outfit.
Whether it’s with a jean jacket for the Spring or with your black or navy wool Coat in the Winter, don’t be scared to try wearing the Color Red.
Red Runners
Runners for Men these days are coming in a huge variety of fun flashy colors!
Red being one of them.
Try getting a pair of cool red sneakers this Spring, don’t worry you don’t have to be a pro-skate boarder to wear them!
But they sure will make you look cool!
Wear them in an age appropriate manner Fellas.
You don’t want to look like you are trying too hard.
If you wear Red runners with a great pair of jeans (that are the right length, jeans that are too short are not good,), and a nice t-shirt, even a dress shirt, or a lightweight v-neck cotton or cashmere sweater, you will be wearing the red footwear in a fashionably responsible manner.
Red Socks
A simple - slightly private way to be stylishly sneaky.
Red socks can be fun.
Tip:
You don’t have to wear them with your red runners, but you can if you want to!
Have fun adding a touch of the color Red to your wardrobe!
As far as Valentine’s Day goes, don’t forget that giving some color Red to someone you love is always in style too!
