Please don't homburgize Montague's post card!

Garden of the Gulf Museum
Of course, Montague ought to keep the tree, but please, house it somewhere other than in a 'modern-made-to-look-old' addition to a building as iconic as this one.   ...

Oh my, Myrtle...A Million-dollar mess this time?

Several media reports today suggest that Tourism Charlottetown has suffered significant losses, perhaps a million dollars, maybe even more, on the Cirque du Soleil show on Canada Day. Yet, Tourism Charlottetown CEO, Myrtle Jenkins-Smith, was in the news in June bragging about how wonderful it was, "Ringing off the wall", she spoke of about the phone. So, just who was calling? It's time to stop the madness. This latest MJS event seems alot like the Alanis concert a couple years back...but bigger losses. I hear rumblings that the PEI Jazz and Blues Festival also didn't go over so well. And now Doug Newson is doing all the talking today. ...

This week's online poll- Poole's Loop

A roundabout, traffic circle, rotary...whatever you want to call it...is something I've long touted as the very best option to reduce the number of deaths at this intersection. There have been countless collisions at this intersection over the years, and many needless fatalities. The time to act has long passed. Relating to the blog entry from John Morris this week...that $3Million dollars being wasted as 'landscaping' at the foot of Confederation Bridge would more than cover the funding needed to reconfigure what is now Poole's Corner into what ought to be "Poole's Loop", and with money to spare. ...

Tories and PNP - Cards on the Table Folks

I have this to say to the candidates vying for the leadership of the PC Party of PEI: I think it is high time each of you state unequivocally, whether you support or not, whether you intend to pursue or not, a full public inquiry into the Provincial Nominee Program. An inquiry that will examine, in fine detail, every single application...those rejected and those approved, and the criteria for each decision. Islanders deserve an answer. Islanders need a leader that isn't afraid to trample the toes that have been kicking most of us in the arse for years. PNP is an ...

First PC Party Town Hall- My Take

Well, of course I went, and of course I offered a question regarding dwindling rural population along with a gentle pry for a strategy to combat it, although I think a couple of them just didn't get it. Maybe that was my fault, but I digress. Hey, I even bought a membership and registered for the convention! But mostly, I did exactly what I planned on doing...I listened intently to what each of the candidates had to say. Many of the answers I heard, I liked, some I didn't like. There were even a couple that I thought were a ...

Hail! Rural Healthcare- A Pig in a Poke

This week in O’Leary, our overlords within the Shaw Building opened a new healthcare clinic. Let’s be clear, this step from ‘hospital’ to ‘clinic’ is being billed by the Minister of Voids and Vacuums, Carolyn Bertram, and the Premier, as a step toward the future of healthcare in Prince Edward Island. I guess that’s true enough, especially given the fact that under this government, the future holds little hope for healthcare services in rural PEI. The words of the Premier spell it out, albeit in a poorly masked code... ”that similar population sizes in the province have equitable access to primary health care ...

McGeoghan's Idea Falls Short for Lobster Fishers

Charlie McGeoghegan, Belfast-Murray River MLA wants changes made to the regulations concerning licenses for lobster peddlers. It's good to see that he wants changes, but he's fighting for the wrong ones. He wants the province to allow people other than the fishers themselves to have access to peddlers' licenses. Well Charlie, setting up a means to add yet another middle-man solves nothing. I would expect this idea would serve more to increase the cost to consumers and have little to no impact on the price paid to lobster fishers. There's no reason why ALL fishermen can't sell straight off the boat...other ...

Will Island EMS Be Renamed "Healthcare Handyman Services"??

So now the Ghiz Government wants paramedics to deliver homecare services as well as respond to emergency calls. Hmmm...does this mean rural Islanders will now have to 'schedule' chest pains, falls and other accidents? Imagine the future news stories...Tignish resident dies of heart attack due to delayed response by Island EMS because paramedics had to finish winching a Miminegash grandma outta the bathtub FIRST! Maybe they should have let her soak, tended the heart attack, and prayed she'd still be upright when they got back! I think if the Ghiz government ran Air Canada, there'd be no flight attendants...just a pilot. ...

Chris Doyle, CA

Nope. Not a 'CA' as in Chartered Accountant, but a 'CA' as in 'colossal asshole', that is, at least, according to the judge while concluding that Doyle is not guilty of assault causing bodily harm. I think it's an odd choice of words. "If he was charged with being a colossal asshole, I would find him guilty...of assault causing bodily harm, I find him not guilty." Judge John Douglas That's not exactly language I'd expect to hear from defense or crown counsel, and it's certainly not the sort of language I'd expect to hear from a judge! Furthermore, what would a judge's ...

P3 Seniors Housing- A Homelessness Initiative

Throwing low-income seniors onto the street, without anyone noticing, is an extraordinary feat to accomplish. I think that is exactly what will happen if the government proceeds with a P3 replacement for Charlotte Court. And if the government gets away with it once...it can and will likely happen with more than just Charlotte Court. ...
