Hockey Night in Canada personality Ron MacLean will hit the ice in Murray Harbour to tape a segment for Hockey Day celebrations Wednesday, February 9.
A patch of ice on the harbour has been cleared and flooded to accommodate Mr MacLean and some young players.
Avery, Griffin and Maria Reynolds, children of Jeff Reynolds and Cherie Clements, and a dozen others will be the backdrop for a CBC segment.
While the three cousins of Brad Richards are no strangers to playing on “the pond” this time is a little different.
Ten-year-old Avery is a big fan of Coaches Corner.
He said he watches it all the time and can’t wait to meet Mr MacLean.
The youngsters had a practise run on Tuesday where a crew filmed them from a helicopter and 8-year-old Griffin said it was fun to play on the ice.
Maria, 6, is looking forward to being on TV.
“I was passing the puck and it was exciting that I got to go and play on the ice,” she said.
It’s no surprise that all three are big fans of the New York Rangers and their favourite player of course is Brad.
The Stanley Cup Relay will make appearances in Morell, Montague and Souris Thursday, February 9. The tour is part of the Hockey Day in Canada 2012 celebrations being held across PEI in the week leading up to February 11.
Morell Consolidated is the first stop. The cup will be on display at the school from 7 to 8:30am and staff and students invite everyone to check it out while enjoying a pancake breakfast with the proceeds going to the school's athletic programs and Grade 8 travel.
The cup will be at the Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre in Montague from 10:50 to 11:50am. The public will have the opportunity to get their picture taken with it for a fee with the proceeds going to the PeeWee AA team travelling to Hamilton in March. Several activities will be happening at the rink throughout the day.
The cup will then go to the Eastern Kings Sportsplex in Souris where the public can take pictures of it from 12:30 to 1:30pm. A draw will be made for three lucky people to have their photos taken with the cup.
