Members of the Montague Regional High School Choir will be painting the town red with their last events to raise money for their field trip to Disney World in Florida.
Monday, February 13 at 7pm the students will get the audience in the mood for Valentine’s Day with a concert called “Love Songs.” As a group with a few duets and solo acts, they’ll belt out classics such as “When I Fall in Love” by Nat King Cole, “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton, “You May Be Right” by Billy Joel and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Queen.
To pick the songs, Director Christie Beck scoured the Internet, looking at various top 100 love song lists. It was tough to narrow them down, she said.
“There are a lot of really awesome love songs out there and I wanted to have a variety. Some that were heartbreakers, some that were upbeat.”
Tickets for the concert costs $6 each or $5 for students and seniors, and are available from students in the Disney Choir, at the office at the school, or at the door. They’ll feature a “Best Seats in the House” draw and will have sweets and treats for sale also.
On Valentine’s Day, the choir will offer their musical services to deliver love song telegrams. Ms Beck said she thought of the idea while organizing the concert.
“It just came out of the blue to do a singing telegram, that would be a blast,” Ms Beck said. “What more fun could you have?”
She said the students are excited about the idea, if a bit nervous about singing to strangers.
For $20, at least two of the students will get dressed up in their finest duds and go to your loved one’s home or work and serenade them with a love song. A personalized version of a select number of tunes (Love Me Tender, The Barney Song, etc) can be delivered as well.
The singers will go as far as Charlottetown if there are at least five telegrams to deliver. People can sign up for this by calling the school at 838-0835, extension 226.
The choir has about $3,000-$4,000 left to raise before they go on their trip March 15.
“We’re on the homestretch for sure,” Ms Beck said.
