Sturgeon Wharf heavily damaged during storm surge
Fishermen who tie up at Sturgeon wharf say the wharf is "a write-off" after the storm surge accompanying Tuesday's major wind storm ripped off the top of the wharf. Fisherman Jason Stewart said "the top of the wharf is floating like a raft" and would no longer be usable. He along with two other mussel fishermen have tied their boats to the side of the wharf and are hoping those ropes stay secure during the storm, which is expected to continue overnight. They said if worse came to worse they'd have to take their boats to either Montague or Lower Montague. The storm has brought wind gusts of up to 100 km/h, resulting in fallen trees and scattered power outages across the province. The main photo shows Steve Creed walking back to dry land after tying up his boat to the side of the Sturgeon wharf and securing some fish tanks to a shack which is also partially immersed in water.
