The funeral for W. Gordon Bears was held Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, from Belvedere Funeral Home Chapel where the service was conducted by Rev. John Moses, assisted by Judy Parsons. The organist was Ed MacLaren. During the service, Stephen Bouey sang Until We Meet Again. The congregational hymns were Abide With Me and Eternal Father, Strong To Save. Words of remembrance were shared by Derek Key. The poem, A Seaman's Prayer, was read by daughter, Barbara Carter. Pallbearers were Dr. F.E. Archer, John Rankin, Kenneth MacKenzie, Alan Brown, Donald K. Martin, Irwin Jenkins and John Inman. Interment took place in Sherwood Cemetery. Those attending the funeral included the P.E.I. Hospital Nurses Alumni. The Charlottetown Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion held a service of remembrance at the funeral home on Sunday evening conducted by Joe Thistle with sergeant-at-arms, Leo Dowling.
