The funeral for Augustin Blacquiere, beloved husband of Margaret Blacquiere, of Rustico, was held Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, Rustico. The presider for the mass of Christian burial was Father Frank Jay, who also proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The pall was laid on the casket by his children. The first reading, from Isaiah, was addressed by sister-in-law, Nancy Blanchard. The second reading, from 1 Thessalonians, was addressed by niece, Eileen Gauthier. Lorraine Deveau led the prayers of the faithful. Crossbearer was Harold Doucette and altar servers were Joseph O. Gallant and Alyre Gallant. Roma Gallant, Marie Doiron, Linda Gallant and Joan Blacquiere, assisted Father Jay as eucharistic ministers. The music was provided by the St. Augustine's choir with Shane Arsenault as organist and Phyllis Arsenault as choir director. The hymns were: Entrance, On Eagle's Wings; psalm, Rest In God Alone, with Father Jay as cantor and guitarist; offertory, For Those Tears I Cried; communion, Lord, You Have Come; commendation, Songs Of The Angels; and recessional, How Great Thou Art. Hayden Smith delivered words of remembrance and Patsy MacDonald recited the poem, I'm Free. Honorary pallbearers were Nancy Blanchard, Annette Coffin, Rita and Reggie Blanchard, Stella and Edward Blanchard, Lorraine and Medée Deveau and Rolland Menard. Pallbearers were Arnold Blanchard, Ricky Blanchard, Robert Blanchard, Marcel Buote, Leith Doucette and Ricky Peters. Flowerbearers were Spencer Blacquiere, Jenna Foren, Mitchell Foren and Mary Ellen Gallant. Bulletins were distributed by family friend, Peggy Doucette. Interment took place in St. Augustine's Cemetery where Father Jay conducted the committal service. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Central Queen's Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
