The funeral for Al Bourgeois, beloved husband of Estelle Bourgeois, of Hope River, P.E.I., was held Monday, December 21, 2009, at St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church, Hope River. The presider for the mass of Christian burial was Reverend Frank Jay, who also proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The first reading, from Isaiah, was addressed by Doreen Bourgeois. The second reading, from 1 Thessalonians, was addressed by brother, Alfred Bourgeois. Karen Gallant led the prayers of the faithful. Crossbearer was Charlie Gallant and the candle bearers were Audrey Day and Aletha Gallant. Laura Larkin, Marina Doiron and Marion Murphy assisted Father Jay as eucharistic ministers. Music was provided by choir members of the John Paul II Pastoral Unit, with Shirley Doiron as organist. The hymns were: Entrance, Here I Am, Lord; psalm, The Lord's My Shepherd, with Lionel Doiron as cantor; offertory, Amazing Grace; communion, I Am The Bread Of Life; post communion, meditation CD, the deceased's own rendition of the Princess Reel and Over The Waves; and recessional, How Great Thou Art. Urn bearer was son, Eldon Bourgeois. Honorary pallbearers were all those present. Flowerbearers were Anne Christopher, Charlie Christopher and Ryan Gallant. Interment took place in St. Anne's Church Cemetery where Father Jay conducted the committal service. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Central Queen's Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
