CURLEY, Brigadier-General (Ret.) Barry M.

The funeral for Brigadier-General (Retired) Barry M. Curley was held on Saturday, January 2, 2010, from Belvedere Funeral Home to St. Dunstan's Basilica, where the mass was presided over by Father John Lacey. Co-celebrants were Father Danny Wilson and Father Eric Dunn who proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The readings were proclaimed by Eugene Murphy and Alan Curley. Ginny Bulger led the assembly in the prayers of intercession. During the mass the church choir, under the direction of organist Elmer Power, led the assembly in singing "Be Not Afraid", "To You O Lord, I Lift My Soul" and "Prayer of St. Francis". Traci Bulger Romyn sang "On Eagle's Wings". The pall was placed on the casket by Barry's wife Phyllis, sons, Dr. Michael and Patrick and his sister Nola Shea. The cushion bearer was Pte. Ramsay. Honorary pallbearers were Scott and Joanne Stevens, Alec and Clare Anne MacAulay, Betty Doucette, Don Crawford, Marina and Louis Burdett, Robert and Helena Yeo, Eugene and Paula Murphy, Faye Murphy, Roy Doucette, Alden Scott and Hazel Walsh, Joey and Heather Cairns, Don and Kathy MacCormac, Wayne MacKinnon and Linda Birt, Charlie and Pauline Campbell and Jim and Marjorie Ramsay. The bearer party commander was Harold McGuigan. Pallbearers were Capt. Doug Thompson, Capt. Bill Moore, Lt. Nathan Fleming, WO Darryl Lentz, Sgt. Richard Bagnall and Sgt. Steve Marchbank. The gun-firing party included commanders, Sgt. Erik Silva, Pte. Gail Coombs, Pte. K. Gallant, Pte. T. Gallant, Pte. LeClair, Pte. Mooney, Pte. Petipas and Pte. Turner. Interment took place in St. Martin of Tours and St. Francis Assisi Cemetery, Cumberland, P.E.I. Piper Mark Wilson played "The Lament" at the graveside. Those attending the service included commanding officers of 721 Communications Regiment, staff of East Wiltshire School and members of the Haviland Club.
