The funeral mass for Bertha Doiron of St. Mary's was held, Saturday, March 6, 2010, at St. Anne's Church, Hope River. The mass was concelebrated by Fr. Frank Jay, who officiated and delivered the homily, Fr. Joe Brazil, who proclaimed the gospel, and Fr. George Smith. The pall was placed by her daughters Lorna Gaudin, Pauline Cox, Carol Evans and Irene MacLean and grandsons Phillip Cox and Todd Gaudin. The first reading, from Ecclesiastes, was addressed by granddaughter Denise Carragher. The second reading, from Romans, was addressed by grandson Darrell Evans. Granddaughters Roxanne MacLean Raelynn MacLean Carla Anne Doiron and Lisa Pollard led the prayers of the faithful. Cross bearer was Charlie Gallant and candle bearers were Estelle Bourgeois and Aletha Gallant. Incense and holy water bearer was Robert Stringer. Carol Evans, Marina Doiron, Fr. Brazil and Fr. Smith assisted Fr. Jay as eucharistic ministers. Music was provided by the church choir with Shirley Doiron as organist and Sr. Audrey Brocklehurst as song leader. Hymns were: entrance, "Be Not Afraid"; Psalm, "The Lord's My Shepherd" with Lionel Doiron as cantor; offertory, "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman"; communion, "Bread of Life"; post-communion, "Parting", written by John Cox and sung by Pauline and John Cox; commendation, "Songs of the Angels"; and recessional, "How Great Thou Art". Honorary pallbearers were all family and friends in attendance. Pallbearers were Ron Doiron, Wayne Doiron, Fred Doiron, John Doiron, Rick Doiron and Frank Doiron. Flowerbearers were Khristine Doiron, Paula Doiron, Riley Doiron, Lisa Evans, Stacey Lapierre and Leanne Pharis. In attendance were representatives of the Department of Community Services, Seniors and Labour. The committal service was conducted by Fr. Jay and interment took place in St. Anne's Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Central Queen's Funeral Home, New Glasgow, P.E.I.
