DUNN, John R. (Johnny Boy)
The funeral for John R. (Johnny Boy) Dunn of Charlottetown was held Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, from the Hennessey Funeral Home to the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer where the funeral mass was celebrated by Reverend Floyd Gallant, who also delivered the homily. The lessons were read by grandson, Michael Dunn, and niece, Buffy Kitson. The prayers of intercession were offered by sister-in-law, Helen Flynn. The funeral mass was sung by the Holy Redeemer funeral choir under the direction of Mary Jenkins. The organist was Gary Cudmore. During the funeral, the choir rendered the processional hymn, Be Not Afraid; the communion hymn, I Am The Bread Of Life; and the recessional hymn, How Great Thou Art.
Pallbearers were brothers-in-law, Ted Kitson and Wayne Flynn; nephew, George Dunn; friends, Robbie MacMillan, Vaughn Doyle and Roger MacDonald. Honorary pallbearers were Mark and Betty Thistle, Wilf and Pat Shepherd, Eileen and Bernie Gallant, Roger and Joan Stanley, Dawson and Barb Peterson, Eddie and Nass Doiron, Norida MacLean, Eunice MacKinnon, Paula Doyle, Billy and Georgina Mulligan, Tack McKenna, Blaine and Barb Allen, Charlie and Mabel Gallant, Gerald Coyle, Nancy Doiron, Gordie and Christine Griffin, Donnie and Gertie Dunn, Lorainne Doucette, Jodi Hennessey, Leo Sheehan, Gary and Helen King, Johnny and Betty Gibbs, Allison and Paulette Perry, Joe and Doris LeClair, Joey Kitson and Barry Doyle. Flowerbearers were his Florida trip buddies, Hunter McTague, Michael Evoy, Andrew Dillon, Luke Dillon, Alex Dillon and Tanner Lund. Church ushers were Bill Jay and Brian Clancey. Among those attending the funeral were representatives of the Royal Canadian Legion, Sherwood Falcons Pee Wee Triple A hockey team, Atlantic Wholesalers, Deputy Mayor Stu MacFadyen and City of Charlottetown staff, and the Knights of Columbus, who also formed an honour guard at the funeral. The interment will take place later in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Charlottetown. On Sunday evening members of Holy Redeemer Council 7748 and members of St. Pius X, St. Dunstan's and Rustico Knights of Columbus held a prayer service at the funeral home. Council Chaplain Rev. Floyd McGaugh led the service. Master of the 4th degree Vernon Buote gave words of condolence to the family. Also members of Charlottetown Branch #1 of the Royal Canadian Legion held a Legion service at the funeral home. Leo Dowling conducted the service
