The funeral for M. Joyce Gallant was held Thursday, December 10, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. The funeral mass was celebrated by Fr. Paul Batchilder, who also proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. Co-celebrants were Fr. Doug MacDonald. Thomas Gallant did the first reading and Colin Gallant did the second reading. All those in attendance and all of her friends who were not able to attend the funeral were considered honorary pallbearers. Pallbearers were Derek Gallant, Randy Gallant, Robert Gallant, Ensor McNeill, Lavon Paquet and David Mooney. Flowerbearers were Josh McNeill, Jacob McNeill, Noah McNeill, Mark Gallant, Calvin Mooney and Kilby Gallant. The pall was placed by Paula Gallant, Kim McNeill, Judy Mooney and Lauraine Simpson. Music was provided by the church choir under the direction of Bill Matthews. Hymns were: Entrance, The Lord Is My Shepherd; offertory, Prayer Of St. Francis; communion, Come To The Water, by Millie, Anna and Lorraine Jenkins; recessional, The Ashokan Farewell, by Richard MacDonald on the fiddle. Soloist was Jean Carter singing Gentle Woman. Groups in attendance were representatives from the law offices of Birt & McNeill, Island Construction, Charlottetown Duplicate Bridge Club, Charlottetown Hospital Nurses Alumnae and the Silver Threads Club. Interment was made in the parish cemetery with the committal service conducted by Fr. Paul Batchilder.
