GREEN, Layton

The funeral for Layton Green of Albany, husband of the late Helena (Keough) Green, was held Thursday, December 31, 2009, from the Lawless Funeral Home, Kinkora, to St. Peter's Church, Seven Mile Bay, where funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. by Rev. George Smith, who also delivered the homily. Co-celebrants were Rev. Brian MacDougall and Rev. Jacques Rigaud. Cross bearer was Grant Keough. Mass servers were O'Connell Wood and David McKenna. Granddaughter, Patricia Smith, proclaimed the first reading. Niece, Mary Beth Parsons, proclaimed the second reading. Prayers of intercessions were invited by cousin, Myrna Murray. The parish funeral choir sang the entrance hymn, Here I Am Lord; offertory hymn, What So Ever You Do; communion hymn, Peace Is Flowing Like A River; and recessional hymn, Be Not Afraid. Organist was Carrie Ann Rogers. Eucharistic minister was daughter, Paula Smith. Ushers were Earl Smith and Jimmy Stewart. His son, Allison Green, and his sister, Joyce Green, placed the pall. Parking attendants were Paul Murphy and Gilbert Wedge. Flowerbearers were grandchildren, Colleen, Patricia, Suzanne and Patrick Smith, Janna Green and Rodney and Jennifer Croken. Pallbearers were grandsons, Rodney Croken, Patrick Smith, as well as Robert Green, Francis MacLellan, Vernon MacLeod, Dale Muttart, Robert Noonan and John Van Vliet. Honorary pallbearers were all members of the congregation. Attending the funeral were members of the Knights of Columbus from various councils who formed an honour guard. Also attending were comrades of the Borden Legion as well as members of the provincial Catholic Women's League. Interment was in the church cemetery with Rev. George Smith officiating. On Wednesday, December 30, members of the Knights of Columbus from various councils held prayers at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. Also comrades of the Borden Legion, Branch #10, held a service of remembrance at the funeral home at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, under the command of Comrade Keith Sigsworth. Color party was Comrade Reg Noonan and Comrade George Palmer. Sergeant-at-arms was Comrade Carl Payne. Last Post and Reveille was sounded by Comrade Mario Henry. Comrade Mitch MacDonald, president of the Borden Legion, Branch #10, gave the final salute. Arrangements were entrusted to the Lawless Funeral Home, Kinkora.
