The funeral for Genevieve (Gen) Hammill (nee Greenan), wife of the late Gorden Hammill, was held Wednesday, December 9, 2009, from the Lawless Funeral Home, Kinkora, to St. Malachy's Church, Kinkora, where funeral mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. by Rev. Eric Dunn, who also delivered the homily. Crossbearer was Tyler Hammill. Mass servers were Darlene MacDonald and Gerald Stordy. Granddaughter, Crystal Gallant, proclaimed the first reading and granddaughter, Vanessa Hammill, proclaimed the second reading. Prayers of intercession were read by granddaughter, Mary Arsenault. The parish funeral choir sang the entrance hymn, You Are Near; communion hymn, Hail Mary, Gentle Woman; and recessional hymn, Be Not Afraid. The offertory hymn, Amazing Grace, was rendered by soloist, Monica Robinson. Organist was Elaine Smith. Eucharistic lay minister was Paula Smith. Ushers were grandsons, Clair Warren and Chris Hammill. Her children, Marilyn Warren, Gerard Hammill and Nancy Gallant, placed the pall. Flowerbearers were granddaughters, Mary Arsenault, Crystal Gallant, Amanda Gallant, Brittany Gallant and Vanessa Hammill; and great-granddaughters, Angela Arsenault and Victoria Arsenault. Pallbearers were Mike Hammill, Preston Hammill, Blair Conway, Bill Croken, Barry McCarville and Clarence McCarville. Honorary pallbearers were Joe and Reg Shreenan, Lenny and Anne Johnston, Clifford and Rita Martin, Charlie and Millie Dawson, Elmer and Louise Doiron, Lorne and Honey Roberts, Beryl Lawless, Peggy Hammill-Thibodeau, Bernie Noonan and Wayne and Liz Damery. Attending the funeral were members of the CWL who formed an honour guard and members of Maple Leaf Seniors Club. Interment was in the parish cemetery with Rev. Eric Dunn officiating. On Tuesday evening, December 8, members of the CWL said prayers at the funeral home.
