The funeral for the late Dennis James Handrahan, beloved companion of Frances Bennink, of Calgary, Alta., was held on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at St. Simon and St. Jude's Church, Tignish, where mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. by Rev. Jim Willick, who delivered the homily and had the prayers of final commendation and farewell. The first reading, from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah, was addressed by his niece and godchild, Shelley Goguen; the second reading, from the second letter of Paul to the Corinthians, was addressed by his niece, Sarah Handrahan; the prayers of the faithful were invited by his sister, Linda Richard. The eucharistic ministers were Percy and Joan Fennessey. The choir was under the direction of Vincent Doucette. The honorary pallbearers were all who were in attendance. The cremains were carried from the church by his brother, Billy Handrahan. Interment of ashes took place in the church cemetery with Rev. Jim Willick officiating.
