The funeral for the late Leila Jane Leard beloved wife of the late Fred Leard, of Alberton, was held on Thursday December 24, 2009, from the Rooney Funeral Home Alberton to the Gordon Memorial United Church Alberton where funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. by the Rev. John A. C. Wilson who brought words of comfort to the family. The first Scripture reading from Psalm 21 was addressed by great-niece Diana MacLennan. The second Scripture reading was addressed by great-niece Ellen Rennie. The Gospel from John 12; 1-21 was addressed by great-nephew Jason Rayner. The eulogy was delivered by great-nephew Brian Oulton. A duet "Closer to God," written by Leila, was rendered by Anne Champion and Judy Cotton. The choir led the congregation in the singing of the hymns "All the Way My Saviour Leads Me" and "Come Let Us Sing of A Wonderful Love". The pianist was Merry Carruthers. The pallbearers were Donald Stewart, Brian Oulton, Blair Warren, Allan Meggison, Glen Rayner, Jason Rayner. The honorary pallbearers were Robert Carruthers, Francis Crane and Herb Meggison. The flower bearers were Jean Perry and Carla Butt. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery Alberton with Rev. John A. C. Wilson officiating.
