MACDONALD, Mary Cecelia

The funeral service for Mary Cecelia MacDonald (Little Mary) was held Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at St. Alexis Roman Catholic Church in Rollo Bay. Prior to the funeral, at the home of Peggy and Greg MacNevin, where she had lived and been waked, her cousin, Phyllis Currie, sang a beautiful rendition of Amazing Grace. She always had an ear for beautiful music. This was followed by a brief time of reminiscing on the wonderful memories of her life with her friends and family. As her casket was taken from home some of the music that she loved was played in the background. The funeral mass was celebrated by Fr. Batchilder, who proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. Fr. Charlie Cheverie was co-celebrant. Nieces, Shannon MacDonald and Alanna MacNevin, placed the pall. The altar servers were Frank McNally and Francis White. The cross bearer was Clifford MacDonald while George Mullally and Jimmy MacDonald attended the candles. Colleague and dear friend, Rose MacDonald, lighted the paschal candle. The eucharistic ministers were George Mullally and Fr. Charlie Cheverie. The gifts were taken up by cousins and close friends, Irene and Mya Peters. Niece, Andrea MacNevin, proclaimed the first reading while cousin, Lisa Raynor, proclaimed the second reading. Long-time friend and neighbour, Darlene Paton, led the assembly in the prayers of intercession. The St. Alexis church choir and organist, Bill Matthews, rendered the following hymns: Entrance, They Will Know We Are Christians By Our Love; offertory, Praise The Lord With The Sound Of Trumpets; communion, Bread Of Life; reflection, Amazing Grace; incensing, Song Of The Angels. The recessional, Lord Of The Dance was played by Peter Chaisson on fiddle and J.J. Chaisson on guitar. Attending in a body were the clients and staff of Harbourview Training Centre, Souris Group Home, and St. Eugene members of Knights of Columbus. Honorary pallbearers were clients and staff of Harbourview Training Centre. Pallbearers were relatives, Roger Gunn, Vernon Peters; friends and neighbours, Sterling Dwan, David Dwan, Leonard MacKenzie; and van driver, Pat Murphy. Flowerbearers were nieces, Shannon MacDonald, Joanne MacNevin, Andrea MacNevin, Danielle MacNevin and Alanna MacNevin. Interment took place in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Cemetery, St. Peters Bay.
