The largely attended funeral for Eric McGuirk was celebrated Wednesday, December 2, 2009, from Hillsboro Funeral Home to St. Patrick's Church with Fr. George Gilliland as chief celebrant, proclaiming the Gospel and delivering the homily. The pall was placed by his children, Everett McGuirk and Colleen Corkum. Theresa Mitchell proclaimed first reading and Sandra Smith proclaimed the second reading. Intercessory Prayers were by Theresa Laverty. The eucharistic ministers were Theresa Mitchell and Theresa Laverty. The cross bearer was Jeff McGuirk. Altar servers were Gerard Duffy and Jerry Kelly. St. Patrick's parish choir provided the music with organist Melissa Corrigan. The hymns rendered were: Processional, Here I Am Lord; psalm, Like A Shepherd; communion, I Am The Bread Of Life; incense, Song Of The Angels; and the recessional, God Gives His People Strength. Honorary pallbearers were Rita, Frank and James McGuirk, Greg and Keith McManus, Harold and Neva Tremere, Raymond and Marlene Hughes, Hubert Shea, Brian and Paulette Duffy and Roy Docherty. Pallbearers were Joseph, David, Kevin and Danny McGuirk, Leonard Callaghan and Ian Smith. Representatives from Fort Augustus Lions Club, MacArthur's Appliances, Island Coastal Services, Atlantic Super Store and Crapaud Fire Department were in attendance. Interment followed in St. Patrick's Cemetery with Fr. George Gilliland conducting the graveside prayers. Completion of funeral arrangements was entrusted to Hillsboro Funeral Home.
