This past March, 18-year-old Schurman Peters of Scotchfort was the latest recipient of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award. Founded by Prince Philip, the Award made its way to PEI in 1963 to encourage youth to be active, to participate in new activities and pursue current interests in four different areas: Community service, Skills, Physical Recreation and Adventerous Journey. Prince Edward Island Convention Centre Concept Introduced by Federal, Provincial and Industry Supporters

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI -- The development concept for the new Prince Edward Island Convention Centre was introduced today by the federal and provincial levels of government and industry partners. The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans as well as the federal Minister Responsible for Prince Edward Island, joined Premier Robert Ghiz to reveal plans to double the province’s capacity to host major meetings and conventions. In 2009, there were roughly 200 meetings and conventions held in Prince Edward Island. These conventions attracted more than 20,000 delegates. Robin Enman is inviting everyone to a Judo Camp being held August 6, 7 and 8 at the Lot 16 Hall. Participants are expected to be there at 9am and registration is $20 per person or $30 a family. It’s a three day camp with two night sleepover filled with Judo, outdoor and indoor workouts, swimming and lots of healthy snacks. The Mi’kmaq Confederacy of PEI celebrated National Aboriginal Day on June 21 at the Shipyard Market in Summerside this year. Once again this year, MCPEI and Parks Canada are offering special vehicle passes for Lennox Island and Abegweit Band Band members. These passes allow for easier access to all Prince Edward Island National Park facilities and interpretive activities (campgrounds are not included). It was history in the making for Aboriginal Youth and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Programme as, for the first time in PEI, thirteen Aboriginal Youth from across the Island received the Bronze Award. This achievement was possible due to the sponsorship and involvement of the Mawita’jik Program by the Aboriginal Women’s Association of PEI (AWA PEI).
