The town of Alberton  is once again without a recreation director.
John Corbin, had been in the position for less than six months  when he was let go. He said he was forced to resign from his position on January 12 or be let go.
“I was issued a post dated pay cheque for the week and told I could leave that day,” he said.
Mr Corbin said he was told by the town’s administrator that council had held a private meeting during which they decided he wasn’t doing enough work and hadn’t really done anything new since he had been there.
“I don’t agree with this at all,” said Mr Corbin, listing  the things he had been involved in since becoming rec director in Alberton. They included working with the Canada Games, Terry Fox Run, Fall fest Weekend, the annual balloon drop and several other activities.
The former rec director said he had met with the Mayor Mike Murphy, Administrator Susan Wallace and  Recreation Committee Chair Claudia Gallant on January 12, so they could discuss issues (if there were any) and to see if anything could be done because the rec department was slow.
“I explained to them that every rec department in the area was slow and it was just that time of year. The winter carnival was coming up and after that the summer programs would be getting organized.”
Mayor Mike Murphy  confirmed that the recreation director has left but said he could not discuss his departure because it was a human resources issue.
The Mayor said Councillor Claudia Gallant, chair of the  recreation committee is putting a group in place to handle what needs to be done while the position is vacant. She is currently getting the winter carnival organized.
Mr Corbin said although he is disappointed to leave Alberton it leaves him looking for bigger and better things.
