The Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission has released the survey of 2010-11 undergraduate arts tuition fees, ancillary fees and room and board costs at public Maritime universities and PEI’s fees remain the lowest of the three provinces.
There is currently a tuition freeze in place for New Brunswick,
where the average undergraduate tuition fees remain at $5,423, and in
Nova Scotia where the fees remain at $5,922. Tuition fees increased by
3.2 per cent over the last year in Prince Edward Island, but they still remain the lowest at $4,860 for the 2010-11 academic year.
Ancillary fees, which include student union fees, health
insurance and other fees such as athletic, society and technology fees
remain relatively unchanged in the region. Total undergraduate tuition
fees, including ancillary fees, increased by 0.2 per cent in New Brunswick, 2.6 per cent in Prince Edward Island and did not change in Nova Scotia.
The survey is available on the Commission’s website:
www.mphec.ca. The information was compiled from institutional
websites and/or financial services departments in July, 2010. The fees
do not take into account any provincial tuition rebates or bursaries,
and are not weighted by enrolment.
The Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission was
established in 1974 to assist institutions and governments in enhancing
the post-secondary learning environment. The commission’s 20 members
are drawn from the Maritime provinces, and represent higher education
institutions, provincial governments and the general public.
