O’Leary has made it official. The picturesque Western PEI community is pulling out all the stops to entice Prince William and Kate Middleton to visit scenic landmarks in O’Leary, including the PEI Potato Museum.
Community councillors made their feelings known at the Thursday, March 10 meeting of O’Leary Council.
Councillors even quipped that perhaps the newly married couple could be talked into licking a Canada Post stamp honouring the world famous potato museum, which is to be released later this year.
“If that is going to be launched in July and they came here, well that would be a perfect tie-in,” said Chair Nancy Wallace.
She has been contact in with Charlottetown politicians and other officials and learned the details of Will and Kate’s visit to PEI, slated for July 3-4, are yet to be decided.
The Royal Couple, who will be married on April 29 in famed Westminister Abby, are spending nine days in Canada, from June 30 to July 8.
“A meet and greet (with the Royal Couple) at the potato museum would be nice,” allowed Ms Wallace.
“That would be a great spot,” said Ms Wallace, adding the West Point Lighthouse would also be an attractive venue as would the area’s large wind turbines.
Council also held out the prospect of working co-operatively with other West Prince communities.
