O’Leary walk-in clinic closed Thursday, January 26

Wed, 01/25/2012 - 13:06

The O’Leary Health Centre walk-in clinic will be closed on Thursday, January 26 due to insufficient physician coverage. Ambulatory services at the health centre will continue as scheduled, according to Health PEI.

In the event of a physician shortage between the walk-in clinic and the Western Hospital emergency department, priority is given to filling all available shifts at the emergency department.

In non-urgent situations, Islanders are encouraged to visit their family physician’s office or a walk-in clinic. However, anyone with urgent medical needs should call 9-1-1 or seek immediate medical care at the nearest hospital emergency department, such as Western Hospital or Prince County Hospital, when: experiencing discomfort or tightness in the chest; experiencing unusual shortness of breath; experiencing abdominal pain; experiencing prolonged and persistent headache or dizziness; an injury may require stitches or involve a broken bone; a child has prolonged diarrhea or vomiting; or a baby under the age of six months has a fever of 38̊C (100.4̊F) or higher.

The O’Leary Health Centre walk-in clinic will re-open as scheduled on Friday, January 27 from 8 am to 8 pm. For walk-in clinic hours and locations, visit www.healthpei.ca/walkinclinics.
