The O’Leary influenza assessment site at the Beechwood Family Health Centre will be closed after Tuesday, Nov. 10.
Provincial health officials decided to close the assessment site because of declining numbers of visitors.
West Prince residents who are experiencing influenza-like symptoms are asked to go to O’Leary Community Hospital’s urgent care centre or Western Hospital’s emergency department, in Alberton.
Regular hours at the urgent care centre in O’Leary will be from 8 am to 8 pm, Monday to Friday, with an 8 am to 4 pm schedule on Remembrance Day and Saturdays. The centre will be closed on Sundays.
The H1N1 situation in West Prince will be monitored and the assessment site in O’Leary will be reactivated if it is needed.
Health department spokesperson Laura Steeves says the O’Leary assessment clinic is the only one of four across P.E.I. to close, starting Remembrance Day. Numbers are still high enough in clinics in Summerside, Souris and Charlottetown to justify those clinics remaining open, she said.
“The only one closed is O’Leary at this time,” she said.
As of Monday 29 Islanders have been hospitalized with the H1N1 influenza.
She went on to say 31,000 people have been vaccinated on the Island against H1N1, or more than one in five individuals.
A shipment of 4,500 doses is arriving this week, with another 500 doses supplied by Canadian Armed Forces through the Department of National Defense.
