Representatives from the Stewart Memorial Hospital Foundation in Tyne Valley had a pleasant task to perform on Aug. 30.

Two registered nurses were the recipients of $3,000 bursaries. The bursaries are only given to newly graduated nurses who have successfully passed their RN’s exam.

Recipients must be willing to sign an agreement to work at Stewart Memorial exclusively for two years. During the two years the nurses will be guaranteed full-time hours.

“We (foundation) feel the bursary is a great initiative to attract new nurses to our area,” says Leigh Newcombe, the foundation’s chairman.

The new recipients agreed working in a small community hospital will allow them to see cases they might not otherwise get a chance to experience, and learn from, in larger hospitals.
