West Prince RCMP report there were injuries in a two-vehicle collision at approximately 10 pm Tuesday, July 28, at the intersection of Highway 2 and the Mill River East Road, known as the Bloomfield Corner.
All three persons in a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by an 18-year-old Piusville man were injured while all four occupants in a 2004 Monte Carlo were unharmed.
RCMP say the two passengers in the Cavalier, both from West Prince, were taken to Alberton’s Western Hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries, and later transported to Prince County Hospital for further assessment. One of the passengers had to be removed from the vehicle by O’Leary firefighters using the jaws of life, said RCMP Sgt. Kent MacKay.
The driver was treated at the scene by Island EMS personnel and released.
RCMP say the Monte Carlo was travelling south and as it came to the intersection of Highway 2 and the Mill River East Road, the Cavalier, which was leaving Mill River East Road, crossed into its path.
The driver of the Monte Carlo, 19, was from Springhill, PEI,, while the passengers, all between 16 and 24, were from Springhill, Summerside and Mount Pleasant.
RCMP report one vehicle was pushed off the road and into the ditch.
The accident remains under investigation and RCMP say it appears alcohol was not a factor. Road conditions appeared “fine” at the time of the accident, said Sgt MacKay, noting RCMP were planning to interview “nine to 10” witnesses.
