Second man Jamie Perry of Tignish entered a guilty plea and was fined $300 for unlawfully fishing for lobster without holding a fisher registration card, contrary to section 14 (1)(a) of the Atlantic Fishery Regulations.

Perry appeared before Judge Jeff Lantz in provincial court in Summerside on Sept 22 to answer to the charge laid by the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

On Wednesday, May 26, Mr Perry, who was working as helper on a fishing boat in Tignish, had been out fishing lobsters when he was asked by a fishery officer to produce his fishery registration card. He said he didn’t have it with him and subsequently admitted that he had not yet registered.

Before laying the fine, Judge Lantz pointed out that it was Perry’s responsibility to have his registration card before going fishing. He granted Perry three months to pay the fine or four days of jail time in default.
